Our odyssey through Portugal continued today as we departed Obidos this morning & traveled northeast to Fatima, one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage destinations in the world.
We had plenty of time at Fatima to have lunch as well as to view the enormous esplanade, visit the two churches & chapel & see the graves of the three children that witnessed the apparitions of Our Lady in 1917, & even to attend midday mass.
From Fatima we traveled southeast to Evora, our overnight stop. Upon arrival we made a walking tour of the town, seeing the main sites (the 'bone chapel', the main square, remains of the Roman aqueduct, baths & walls, the Roman 'Temple of Diana', & the cathedral). Then there was free time - to shop for cork products or enjoy a glass of local wine - before we met up for dinner in an authentic Alentejo restaurant were delicacies included scrambled eggs with asparagus!
Another great day.
